PPM School of Management (PPM School) is the first management education institution in Indonesia, established on July 3, 1967. As a pioneer in the field of management, PPM School is committed to providing high-quality education integrated with leadership development. Through an innovative approach, the campus consistently produces outstanding professionals who are ready to become agents of change and contribute to the nation’s development.
On July 3, 1967, the Management Education and Development Foundation (PPM Foundation) was established. This foundation was born from the concern of a number of national figures from various religions regarding Indonesia’s need for professional managers. Its founders included IJ Kasimo (Catholic), Prof. Dr. Bahder Djohan (Muslim), and Dr. A.M. Tambunan (Christian), with Dr. T.B. Simatupang, Chairman of the Council of Churches in Indonesia, as the foundation’s first chairman. The foundation’s presence was an important milestone in efforts to advance management education in Indonesia.
On February 19, 1968, the Management College (PTM) was established as a continuation of the foundation’s vision. Dr. A.M. Kadarman, a Jesuit priest and a leading thinker in management education, was appointed as the first rector. Since its inception, PTM has been known for its stringent admissions standards, accepting only a handful of students from hundreds of applicants. This underscores PTM’s commitment to maintaining graduate quality from an early age.
Just a year after its founding, PTM evolved into a Management College (STM), as recommended by the Ministry of Education and Culture. This change broadened the institution’s academic scope and legitimacy, allowing students to learn not only management theory but also practical training relevant to current industry needs.
Entering the 1970s, the institution underwent another transformation. Its official name was changed to the Institute for Management Education and Development (LPPM), expanding its role beyond formal education to include short-term and long-term management training. LPPM became a pioneer in filling the managerial gap amidst Indonesia’s economic growth, which at that time averaged 7% per year.
In 1977, LPPM launched a flagship program known as Wijawiyata Manajemen (WM). This 10-month, non-degree program was designed specifically for new graduates. WM was a significant innovation because it combined real-world management experience with the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree after a year of work. This program has successfully produced thousands of young managers ready to enter the professional world.
The year 1985 marked a significant turning point with the establishment of the PPM Graduate School of Management, which offered an MBA (Master of Business Administration) program. This program made LPPM one of the first institutions in Indonesia to offer postgraduate management education at international standards. The MBA program paved the way for young Indonesian professionals to earn a global-class management degree without having to travel abroad.
In line with industry needs and global educational trends, in 1993, LPPM’s MBA program transformed into the Master of Executive Management (MM Eksekutif). This program better aligns with the needs of executives and professionals who wish to continue their education without leaving their current responsibilities. With a flexible learning system, the MM Eksekutif program helps many corporate leaders develop strategic insight and leadership skills.
In 1999, a major restructuring took place. LPPM officially became the PPM Management Institute with four main strategic units:
The Executive Training and Development Directorate (PPE), which focuses on training programs for individuals and companies.
The Consultancy Directorate (PT Binaman Utama), which serves the management consulting needs of companies.
The Higher Education Directorate (PPM Management College), now known as the PPM School of Management.
The Publication Directorate (PT Binaman Pressindo), which publishes management books and publications.
This transformation emphasized PPM’s role as an institution that focuses not only on academic education but also on research, training, and consulting.
Another leap in achievement was achieved in 2019 when the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) recognized PPM School of Management as the institution with the best internal quality assurance system. Furthermore, PPM School became the first management school in Indonesia to achieve Unggul accreditation, strengthening its position as a pioneer and leader in management education in the country.
With a long history of developing leaders, PPM School of Management is committed to continuous innovation and providing management education relevant to global challenges. As a pioneer in management education in Indonesia, PPM School addresses industry needs by producing competent graduates ready to lead the future.
To support this expectation, PPM School offers a variety of educational programs, ranging from Bachelor’s (S1) and Master’s (S2) degrees, to non-degree programs in management. Beyond its academic focus, the school has an extensive network of business leaders and professionals, making it an ideal choice for those seeking to develop as industry leaders.
